Artwork Description

The detailed charcoal rendering beautifully captures the practise of kolam making at a multigenerational Tamil family home. Mastery of this highly intricate geometric artform is traditionally the domain of family matriarchs. The little girl who is the subject of this piece conveys a sense of innocence as she gingerly applies rice paste to the platform in front of her, patiently guided by her mother.
