Artwork Description

The artist exhibits a sophisticated level of thought and strategy in this composition, encapsulating the waning heritage of rattan artistry within a sepak takraw ball. Used in traditional weaving, the rattan, a slender yet sturdy and pliable jungle palm is now a scarce commodity. The rattan artisan meticulously fashions rattan splints into everything from chairs and tables to cradles and baskets. Creating intricate rattan objects requires unadulterated passion and patience, qualities that make for superior craftsmanship.
