Artwork Description

The artist has conceptualised a technically sound and unique artwork. A sense of dynamism is imbued into the composition through the controlled usage of opaque colours and the overlapping effect of the watercolour medium. The intentionally distorted painting focuses on Penang Road of long-ago with more trishaws than cars to be seen. The humble trishaw or ‘beca’, which has been a part of the state’s heritage for over 80 years used to ferry Penangites from corner to corner. Today, these three-wheelers are more of a tourist attraction than a veritable form of transport.
