Artwork Description
Amidst the grinding of metal against metal, the locksmith forges new contours in a keyblank giving it the specific bitting it requires to transform into a functional key. The artist manipulates rice paper and acrylic paint brilliantly to create a derelict effect, successfully conveying a sense of waning heritage. The piece hints at the loss of traditional methods, which require great skill and technique, slowly set aside in favour of mechanisation and mass production. However, in recent times, the battle between craftsmanship and industrial production has taken a turn. Artistry is experiencing a revival as demand increases for personalised products of superior quality.
